David White, former correspondent and Africa Editor for the Financial Times reviews Andrew Feinstein’s After the Party: Corruption and the ANC in a review essay appearing in the August-September issue of Survival: Global Politics and Strategy, vol. 51 no. 4:
Andrew Feinstein was the senior ANC member of the parliamentary current accounts committee looking into the deal in 2001, when the party removed him as it sought to head off a full investigation, and he resigned from parliament soon after. The book is also a personal memoir and a strong critique of the Mbeki years, conveying with transparent sincerity the despair of a conscientious man up against the enforcers of a monolithic party. At one stage Essop Pahad, minister in the presidency and a close Mbeki ally since their Sussex student days, challenges Feinstein: ‘Who do you think you are, questioning the integrity of the government, the ministers and the president?’”
