Verso will be co-hosting a book party and talk with the Brecht Forum:
Slavoj Žižek will be speaking about his forthcoming title First as Tragedy, Then as Farce in New York City at the Great Hall in Cooper Union on October 14, 7pm .
In this new hard hitting polemic, Žižek asks the question that is on everyone’s lips: if we can pour billions of dollars into the global banking system in a frantic attempt at financial stabilization why has it not been possible to bring the same forces to bear in addressing world poverty and environmental crisis?
Žižek’s talk will frame the current global crisis, with an accessible analysis of how we moved from the tragedy 9/11 to the farce of the financial meltdown.
Entrance fee to the talk will be on a sliding scale: pay what you can: $10 / $15 ($15 admission includes a copy of Zizek’s newly-released First as Tragedy, Then as Farce)
