Hilary Rose of LSE reviews André Pichot’s book, The Pure Society: From Darwin to Hitler. Pichot traces the development of eugenics – from Thomas Malthus , Herbert Spencer and Francis Galton, to Darwin’s theory of natural selection and eventually to Hitler’s Final Solution. How did legitimate science become perverted for political ends? Pichot assigns responsibility to scientists for the transference of biological precepts into the social consciousness. As Rose says,
